There is a lot of snow

Trondheim is more temperate than elsewhere at the same latitude because of its position along the gulf stream. Consequently, it gets less snow than you’d expect even an hour or two further inland.

This week was an exception to that rule. We heard from one unverified source that this was the third snowiest week in Trondheim’s history. Regardless of whether that’s true, we’ve had multiple feet over several days. People are skiing in the downtown streets!

One night’s accumulation

As a practical matter, this has required a change in how to take Annalise to and from barnehage. The stroller has become unwieldy in all this snow, and Annalise only wants to ride in it if she can be under a reindeer pelt. (Editor’s note: In the name of journalistic integrity, I must correct the record. Annalise doesn’t care about the reindeer pelt. Allison likes the reindeer pelt.)

So, she’s now commuting by sled!

Here are some pictures from this week’s commute!

I’m glad we don’t live up these stairs
We live in the yellow building
Elementary school soccer field
Someone forgot to close the door to the nap shed!
It was recommended that we send her skis to school
More snow for the walk home
Home again!

  1. Wow! That is a lot of snow. As a child I recall heavy snow in Nebraska. How did I get to school? I don’t remember. Anyway love seeing how Annalise and you commute through this heavy snow. Did the children nap in the “building”?
    Thanks for sharing. Love, GiGi
