In the last couple posts, we have learning something interesting about you. It turns out that we get way more views when we either (1) yell at each other in public, or (2) write a listicle. So, I guess you can expect more of that, you Buzzfeed-loving monsters.
Before returning to our normal beat (cheese slicers), I briefly return focus to our vacation.
A few bullets about some other things we did.
- We did some kayaking in a fjord out of Ulvik. Thanks to perfectly clear and smooth water, as well as an annoyed seal rapproching us from about 10 yards away, this was an awesome experience. Due to water and cameras not coexisting, there are no pictures.
- We took a rainy day to take a ferry to Utne, then drove down the fjord to Jondal. We took a couple dramatic pictures of clouds, and Allison accidentally (and correctly) told an artist his art was weird.
- The summer solstice happened. The midnight sun is a big deal here, but the largest nearby solstice event was a church’s cross that apparently miraculously perspires. We didn’t attend this, as it seemed both unlikely and kind of gross.
- We met some sheep, and they hinted at some latent sheep-commanding powers.
[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SraDPR-jN0M&w=560&h=315] - We hiked amongst the orchards and cider farms of Ulvik, and forgot to take off our mirrored sunglasses while taking selfies.
- We saw the most dangerous trampoline yet:
Yes, that’s a cliff
And THEN – we went to the Stalheim Hotel to celebrate our five-year anniversary.

We had told them we were coming and what we were celebrating, and I’m pretty sure they gave us their best room. Norwegians are friendly, but a bit reserved – it was kind of adorable how excited the staff seemed for us while being not quite comfortable enough to say so. The Stalheim Hotel was awesome.

The next day, wonder of wonders, we woke up for the first time in Norway to blue skies.

Allison likes it when the turf roofs have trees growing on them
Look, folks, it doesn’t get any better than this. Allison and I have been together since 2005, and she’s still willing to quit her job, go on these crazy adventures with me, live out of two suitcases for a year, and spend her anniversary in the rain. She’s pretty much the best. Happy anniversary, wife!
